Zipolite has a reputation for being the ‘party town’ of the South coast of Oaxaca, where the friendly, mixed crowds dance barefoot on the beach.
One thing to note about Zipolite is that it’s pretty difficult to get lost. There’s Av. Roca Blanca, which is the ‘main street,’ a couple of side streets and the beach, making it really easy to hop around and find the vibe you’re looking for.

Whether you’re already a Mezcal enthusiast or a rookie, you’re in good hands with the team at Gota Gorda. Enjoy expertly crafted cocktails, or try their vast selection of Mezcals straight up. The vibe is very LA and sexy. Cross through to the back and there is a pool for the guests of the attached Soiree Boutique Hotel. Check the website and socials for upcoming live music, and leave room in your bag for a bottle of the house made Mezcal they are so proud of.

If you’re looking for a place to meet up the gang, or make new friends, ChiZme is a vibrant, open-air lounge near Casa Nudista where owner, Vincent will be happy to host you! Rumour has it that this was Zipolite’s first gay bar and remains a must-stop after dinner. Clothing is always optional, if you wish, and you’ll feel be made to feel right at home.

What kind of a gay-cation wouldn’t have drag queens? Be sure to check out ‘La Maxima Nue’ and their high energy shows. Find drag queens and kings bringing it from their main stage to the beach, wearing completely impractical footwear. Super friendly, cold drinks, great entertainment - what more do you need?

Disco Zipolite
There are a few regular events that, if you can, should try to hit up. The main one, and arguably one of the best nights you’re going to have is the DominGo Disco, by Disco Zipolite. As the name suggests, this particular event place on Sundays and the music is a queer disco mash-up but the team seems to be getting more and more organized, and more followers, hosting all kinds of riotous events. Think mixed crowds, gender bending dress, the best DJs and maybe even a performance or two. Follow them on IG and plan around their upcoming event.
